General Background Information
Indonesia has many tourist attractions, such as natural places like mountains, lakes, rivers, and seas. The beauties of tourists attractions in Indonesia make both domestic and international tourists come to Indonesia. According to the Bali Post Article (12, 2010), the visitors in Bali in 2010 are about two million (Bali Post, 12, 2010). That data show that Indonesian’s tourist attractions can attract many people to come and visit Indonesia. Moreover, it is also supported by media tools promotion. For example, Bali, there are lots of information’s about Bali. From the websites, articles, and even from the other media promotions such as video promotions in the internet or another sources, we can find about Bali.
However, not all of the tourist attractions have a good media promotion like Bali. For example is Java, there are many beautiful tourist attractions in West Java, such as some beaches in Pangandaran, Ciamis. Actually, the beaches in Pangandaran are not as famous as beaches in Bali. Many people still do not know about the beaches in Pangandaran. When we talk about the beaches in Pangandaran, mostly they only know about one of the beaches in Pangandaran that is Pananjung beach. However, there are many beaches in there, such as Karapyak Beach, Karang Nini Beach, Batu Hiu Beach, Batu Karas Beach, Pasir Putih Beach, and many other beaches where every beach has the uniqueness. However, Pangandaran does not have a good media promotion to promote the beaches, qonsequence there are very little tourists who come to there.
Based on that problem, I will make a project about promotional media for the five beaches in Pangandaran. There are Pananjung beach, Karapyak Beach, Karang Nini Beach, Batu Hiu beach, Batu Karas Beach, and Pasir Putih beach. Actually, I choose the five of the beach in Pangandaran because those beaches are still very natural, and unique.
I decide to make an interactive CD to promote the beaches because interactive CD can make the promotion more attractive and interesting. I will use software Adobe Flash CS3 to make the interactive CD. Finally, I choose the title for my project is “Interactive CD of The Five Awesome Beaches at Pangandaran”
Literature Review
Indonesia has many tourist attractions. Today, there are many media that we can use to promote it, such as websites, advertisements, or interactive CD, but not all of the tourist attractions have good media promotion. For example, Pangandaran beach in Ciamis, West Java. Actually, Pangandaran beach is one of the beautiful beaches in West Java, but Pangandaran does not have a good media promotion to promote the beach. Based on that problem, I want to make an interactive CD as a media promotion of Pangandaran Beach. Moreover, to make an interactive CD about Pangandaran beach, I have to analyze several sources as references to support my idea. However, I have analyzed five sources to support my idea and to find the gaps about my product to the other.
The first source that I have analyzed is about CD Interaktif sebagai media promosi objek wisata di kawasan Ciwidey. This is a final project report written by Darmansyah. He was an UPW student (2007) in POLBAN. He observes directly to make his final project, and he also does some interviews to support his idea. In his final project, he describes all about Ciwidey using interactive CD. He writes about profile, accommodations, and facilities in Ciwidey. Actually, he makes a final project report about interactive CD of Ciwidey, because he thinks that the visitors of Ciwidey becomes less and less, so he wants to make an interactive CD to promote Ciwidey as a tourist attraction in Bandung. However, in his final project report, he does not input the video of Ciwidey even though in the proccess of making this interactive CD he talks that he creates a video about Ciwidey.
The second source that I have analyzed is about video promotion of Indonesia. The title of this video is ”AIESEC Indonesia NEC 2011 Promotion video.” I took this source from the internet. This video shows us about Indonesia. However, this video just shows us the picture (slide shows) about Indonesia without music or other sounds. We just see the picture of Indonesia and read everything about Indonesia. I think it will be good if the video has a narrator to explain each place.
The third sources are about a promotional video of Indonesia that I have taken from YouTube. The title of the video is “A Country of Thousand Faces.” In this promotional video, the narrator tells us that Indonesia is a beautiful place in the world. The video shows us about some parts in Indonesia without details of description about the locations of the place. For example, the video shows us about Borobudur temple, but there are no descriptions about the location of Borobudur temple. I think, it will be better if the narrator also tells us about the locations of each place. It will be more effective and make us easier to go there.
The next source is still video promotion of Indonesia that I have taken from YouTube. The title of the video is “Indonesia Tourism Promotion Board.” This video describes several islands of Indonesia such as Bali, Sumatra, Java, and other islands in Indonesia. Besides, the video also gives the complete descriptions about each place. For example, when the video talks about Sumatra, there are complete descriptions about location, culture and handicrafts from Sumatra. The weakness of this video is that there are no descriptions about Pangandaran beach even though Pangandaran beach is a part of Java Island. Overall, I think this video promotion is good as a model of my final project.
The last source is about “ Demo CD Interaktif The Zoo.” I took this source from the internet. This video has a good and simple animation design. Besides, the video also has a good music. This video shows us about several kinds of animals in the zoo using interactive CD. Moreover, he also gives the description about the facilities in the zoo. The weakness of this video is that there are no detail descriptions about each animal itself. The author just shows us the picture and the name of the animals. I think it will be good if the interactive CD also input the video of the zoo.
After I analyzed five sources that related to my topic, I think all of these sources can support my idea. I can know about the weaknesses of each sources, such as there are no video included in the interactive CD in Darmansyah final Project report and in “ Demo CD Interaktif The Zoo.” Besides, there is no details description of each place in each promotional video. Moreover, there is no narrator who describes everything about Indonesia in ”AIESEC Indonesia NEC 2011 Promotion video.”
I think my topic is very usefull to promote Pangandaran as a tourist attraction in West Java. I will use Darmansyah final project to be an example of my project. However, there are some differences about my project with Darmansyah final project, which is I will input the video of the beach in my product. I will take the video of “Indonesia Tourism Promotion Board” as the example of my video in my interactive CD. So, in my final project, I will include the profiles, facilities, accommodations, handicrafts, and the videos of the beaches.
Theoretical Framework
To support my final project product about interactive CD of the beaches in Pangandaran, I have selected some research that will be used for the foundation of my product. I divide that research into several parts. There are the explanation about tourism, tourist attraction, and tourist, and also the explanation about the software that I will use in making my project, Adobe Flash CS3. Besides, I also include the theory of interactive CD itself and the content of interactive CD to guide what I have to do with my product.
1. Tourism
There are some definitions about tourism. According to an online article “Tourism is an activity done by an individual or a group of individuals, which leads to a motion from a place to another.” (discoveryAlex.com, 2006). Another opinion is explained by Hunziker and Krapf which defined tourism as “The sum of the phenomena and relationships arising from the travel and stay of non-residents, insofar as they do not lead to permanent residence and are not connected with any earning activity"(qtd in Tourism, Definition of Tourism, par.4). Besides, one of the online articles explains that “Tourism is the act of the travel and visiting places, independent from the purpose” (Accent Online Magazine, 2010).
According to the definitions above, tourism can be defined as one kind activity that does by the people to enjoy the beautiful phenomenon in the world. Moreover, this material will support my project about interactive CD of five beaches at Pangandaran, because actually my project is related to the tourism, so I need many resources about that
2. Tourist attraction
According to the online dictionary, Year 7 Geography Vocabulary,” Tourist attraction is places where people travel for interests and pleasure” (Year 7 Geography Vocabulary, 2010). Besides, one of the online article describes that Indonesia offer many tourist attractions, such as mountains, particularly volcanoes, dense forest, attractive beaches, and spectacular natural beauty (AsiaRooms.com, 2010). Another resource says that a tourist attraction is “A place where tourists, foreign and domestic, normally visit” (Tourist Attraction-Definition, 2010). Moreover this article also talks that every tourist attractions should have a special phenomenon that can be attracted the tourists.
Hence, the tourist attraction can be defined as places that usually visit by the people. Actually these places are containing with the beautiful phenomenon, such as mountains, lakes, beaches, forests, and natural beauty. The five beaches in Pangandaran is one kind of that beautiful phenomenon that I can promote as a tourist attraction.
3. Tourist
People who enjoy tourist attraction can be called as a tourist. According to World Tourism Organization, tourist can be describes as people who "travel to and stay in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited" (WTO, par.1). It is mean that tourists are people who come and enjoy the tourist attractions. It is support by the Accent Online Magazine that describes tourists as a people who come to another places for their own secret concern (Accent Online Magazine, par.2).
From those explanations, tourist can be defined as people who come to the tourist attraction and do the fun activities that can make them enjoy that. Moreover, all of these explanations will support my data to know who the object (tourists) of my project. After I know about the definition of tourists itself, I will know about the people that will become my target in my final project. They are tourists.
4. CD Interactive
“CD Interactive is an effective tool for many types of communication, from learning resources to product catalogues and promotional package” (Multimedia Production, par.1). According to an online article, the features that will include to the interactive CD are the picture, text, video clips, sound clips, and websites links (Precise Service Media, par.13).
From the explanations above, interactive CD is one kind of media promotion which can make the object that will be promote more attractive because interactive CD contain with many interesting feature, such as sounds, video, picture, and so on.
5. The benefit of using Interactive CD as a Media Promotion
Precise Service Media article describes that there are several benefits of using interactive CD as a media promotion. The benefits are;
Speed (effective promotional tool)
Low cost
CD/DVD has a big capacity, so we can become more creative.
Quality (CD/DVD has a higher resolution video than the web)
Interactivity
Easy authoring (not expensive)
Unique
(Precise Service Media, par.9)
From the explanation above, we know that using interactive CD as a media promotion has many benefits. Not only the promotion will be more attractive and interactive, but also we can safe much money because the cost of the CD is not too high. Moreover, those data are very support my data, because it can shows that my project will have several benefits.
6. The content of Interactive CD
Enem Interactive, the online article said that interactive CD may be included some content such as video, narration, animation, simulations, sound effects, and music. Besides, Druantia says in her article “Terriers Bonus Interactive CD-room” that the content of the interactive CD are games, animation, sound, and videos.
From these explanations about the content of the interactive CD, I conclude that there are several content of interactive CD, such as sound, animation, and even videos. Hence, these sources support my data to include the video of each beach.
7. Adobe Flash CS3
According to an online article, Adobe Flash CS3 is software for creating websites, rich media advertisement, instructional media, presenting, game, and etcetera (Atare, 2009, par.1). Besides, Atare also describes in his article that Adobe Flash CS3 can produce interactive video and animation. Moreover, it can also make the video more interactive (Atare, 2009, par.2).
From Atare explanations, I know that adobe flash CS3 is one kind of software that I can use to make my product about interactive CD. Besides, in this software I can make my project more interactive because I can include the video, and the picture to the CD. It is support by Nicolas McGregor opinion which says “Adobe Flash CS3is a software solution for creating interactive media. The flash authoring environment enables games, animations, advertisements, and web page” (Nicolas McGregor, 2009)
Research methods/designed
I will use the qualitative method to collect some data to support my idea. The data will be collected from books, internet, and final project of the other students that related to my final project, interview, and observation.
The first data that I will collect are from the books. It can be about tourism and about Adobe Flash CS3. In these methods, I will use the summary and paraphrase technique to get the main idea at the book. In adobe flash book, I will pay attention about the technique that can be used to make interactive CD, such as make buttons, attach sounds, pictures, and videos. Moreover, I will collect the data’s from the internet too. I will search about the other information of tourism. It might be such articles that can support my data.
Next, I will look at the others final project that related to my idea. It can be final project from the other department in POLBAN, such as UPW student’s final project about interactive CD of tourist attractions, such as Ciwidey, Garut, and many other places. It can be the model of my project.
Then, I will do some interviews to the local people in Pangandaran to support my data. The questions that I will ask to the Pangandaran people are about the Pangandaran in general, the locations, accommodations, and special handicrafts from there.
Moreover, I will do the observation to Pangandaran. In this method, I will take the picture and shoot the video at the beach. In my video, I will use the narrative to inform the user of interactive CD. However, I will not present in front of the camera to explain everything, but I just make a script for the video and my friend will present it behind the scene. I will use the data from the interview about the profile, accommodation, handicraft, and facilities in each beach for the script. I hope that the video will useful for the user who does not want to read everything about the beach, but they want to see the beautiful of each beach itself.
After I finish collecting the data, I will start to make the product. The first step that I will do is about make the information from the data that I have got, such as make a profile, accommodation list, facilities list, handicraft list of every beach. After I finish that, I will start to edit the video that I have taken from five beaches in Pangandaran. Then, I will make a designee in Adobe Flash CS3 about my project. After that, I will compile all the data that I have done before, and I will edit it when I finish it.
Ethical consideration
In making my product, I need a letter from the English Department to the Ciamis Tourism Industry which shows that I will make a product about an interactive CD of the five beaches in Pangandaran. Besides, I also need a letter from the Ciamis Tourism Industry to show that I need some interview to the local people in Pangandaran to complete my data.
Resources
There are some sources that can help me to do the research. Those sources will be taken from the internet, and books. The materials that I will consult are about tourism, the five beaches in Pangandaran, and tutorial of Adobe Flash CS3. Moreover, I will take some examples of interactive CD from another student’s project. It can help me to find the gap between my product with the other student’s product.
Special consideration
I will borrow the equipment from the English department to support my project. The equipment is about handy cam. If the department does not allow me to borrow the handy cam, I will make a proposal to the Ciamis Tourism Industry to borrow the handy cam. However, if the Ciamis Tourism Industry does not allow me to borrow that equipment too, I will borrow it from my relatives. Besides, if the Ciamis Tourism Industry does not allow me to make a promotional media for the five beaches in Pangandaran, I will make a proposal to make sure that they will allow me to make an interactive CD about the five beaches in Pangandaran.

To support my final project product about interactive CD of the beaches in Pangandaran, I have selected some research that will be used for the foundation of my product.
Precise Service Media article describes that there are several benefits of using interactive CD as a media promotion. The benefits are;
Speed (effective promotional tool)

Theoretical Framework
by ayu

It is support by the Accent Online Magazine that describes tourists as a people who come to another places for their own secret concern (Accent Online Magazine, par.2).
From those explanations, tourist can be defined as people who come to the tourist attraction and do the fun activities that can make them enjoy that. After I know about the definition of tourists itself, I will know about the people that will become my target in my final project. They are tourists.

Example of Literature Review
Literature review
by Ginaaa
Recently, I have found that some students have similar difficulties in learning English as a foreign language. Generally, they have a difficulty in learning grammar, vocabulary, structures, and so on. To solve the problems, I would like to develop grammar exercises for young learners and make it into interactive CD, but some researchers have different solutions to help students in learning English properly. Actually, the aims of this literature review are to give more detail explanation about the materials, to define the gaps, and to fill in the gaps. In this review, I will examine what source that related to my topic. For example, I must focusing on the strengths and the weaknesses from some books about grammar, final projects, and some articles from the internet. Then, it follows with each description of each book or source.
Lately, most of English books for elementary school students discuss the basic of grammar. English book for elementary school students also contains vocabulary, greeting, grammar, reading, writing, and oral skills. I have an English book for 4th grade students that is written by Yunita (2009). The title of the book is My English Workbook. This book is designed to lead students to learn by doing. Games, paired and individual activities, puzzles, and worksheets are included. For example, Yunita as the writer of the book made some exercises that have simple topics and funny illustration to stimulate student’s imaginations. However, the book only contains two kinds of parts of speech and one kind of tenses, such as pronoun, preposition, and present continuous.
Moreover, I have taken a book that was published in India and it contains many exercises for learning grammar. The title of the book is My Book of English Workbook and Nita Mukherjee writes it. This book is designed for young learners. The writer uses simple vocabulary in explaining each part of the grammar. The book also contains many kinds of grammar exercises. For example, she makes questions for students to write sentences, underline the nouns, and circle verbs in every sentence. In this book, I find many parts of speech with clear explanations. However, the weaknesses in this book is that she mentions some places in India which is unfamiliar for Indonesian students in each exercise and then the writer does not give the answer key, so students cannot know whether their answer right or not. Moreover, the writer only focuses on parts of speech and just a little explanation about tenses.
Nevertheless, research from the internet that I have taken is different from elementary books that I have seen. The title is “Teaching Young Learners”. The difference is the explanation of the research is unclear and too complex, but there are many interesting exercises. For example, the writer ask to students to fill in blanks with is, am or are. In every question, a picture describes the question. Klein (2010) also made some steps before students learn about something.
I think those steps are useful for students so that they can ready to receive a lesson from their teacher. Actually, I am going to use the interesting exercises that was made by Klein as my model when I am creating grammar exercises.
Next, in the book entitled Bahasa Inggris Sistem 52 M which is written by Herpinus Simanjuntak (2009). The writer uses Indonesian language to explain everything about the basic of grammar. One of the basic of grammars that he had explained is about the eight parts of speech. He explains them one by one with one example and a simple description, so the readers can get the meaning easily. For example, Simanjuntak wrote about the definition about conjunction in Indonesian language like,” Conjunction adalah kata sambung, yaitu kata yang menghubungkan kata-kata atau kalimat” (p. 71). In my opinion, for Indonesian people it is very useful. On the other hand, for students who learn English, the explanations with English can give more benefits for them.
Additionally, some research focus only on the descriptions of grammar and how it becomes the barrier for young learners in learning English. Marieta (2009) had analyzed how grammar makes anxiety to students when they are learning English. In her final project entitled Affective Strategies to Overcome Anxiety in Learning English, she made some strategies and tips to overcome these kinds of problems. Other research is about vocabulary. Pringadi (2010) makes a final project product and the title is The Making of Vocabulary Test for Beginners Using Macromedia Flash 8. He creates an alternative way for children who want to test their vocabulary in the front of computer. The aim is to set up their attention in studying English vocabulary with the interesting way that is using multimedia as his media to attract young learners. In his project, he put some theories, such as the definition of vocabulary, definition of beginners and beginner’s objectives in learning vocabulary, types of vocabulary, etc. The data that he collects include references, making questions, and collecting pictures. In my opinion, Pringadi has made a good pruduct. He uses simple vocabulary and makes simple questions for children. Actually, why I will use Marieta’s final project as my resouces because I need the reason why grammar becomes the barrier fo young learners in learning English. Then, Pringadi’s final project is really helpful for me in developing grammar exercises because he uses the similar technique with me that is macromedia Flash 8.
However, although Marieta (2009) has conducted good research about grammar and make some tips to surmount the problem, she does not make the alternative solution or make a product to attract students learn more about grammar. She just analyze why students felt anxiety when they learnt English, but she describes and explains the problems very clearly and very useful. Pringadi (2010) make an application about vocabulary for helping students in learning English. He makes the alternative and interactive application, so it can attract students to learn more about vocabulary. While it is important on the one hand; however, it cannot overcome to learn about grammar. It is just for learning vocabulary with an alternative way.
Then, Rakhimahullah and Spalanzany (2010) make another final project product entitled The Making of Electronic Dictionary for Young Learners (Dictionary of Places and Occupations). Both of them make the electronic dictionary for young learners. It contains 292 words related to places and occupations. They made an attractive dictionary in order to give enthusiasm to young learners in learning English and vocabulary. Then, the theories are English for young learners, vocabulary, technology, computer, and dictionary. I think their solutions to surmount the problems in learning English are different from me. I would like to develop grammar exercises for young learners, aged 10-14.
To sum up, although some researchers give more explanations and exercises with simple vocabulary in their book, some of them did not give the details of the basic of grammar. They give lots of knowledge about vocabulary, but a little bit about parts of speech. In every book, I only find one until two kind’s parts of speech that are explained in details. Then for tenses, there are so many explanations about that and the exercises, but the problem is the questions in English books for elementary school students are too complex. I think my project is useful for students that have difficulty in grammar. My project is developing grammar exercises on tenses and parts of speech and it involves more interactive exercises with simple explanations. Moreover, I only focus on parts of speech and tenses. Actually, for tenses it would be explained more by my partner. These kinds of grammar are the basic parts of grammar. The application contains many exercises, pictures, sound effects, and full colours. How young learners become expert in their English if they cannot learn the basic of the grammar.

The data that I will collect to help me in making this project include references, collecting pictures, and collecting parts of speech’s exercises as the model of my project. First, I will take references about grammar and multimedia as many as I can. I will do that because it can help me to support my project. I will take some theories and explanations of grammar and multimedia to strengthen my project.
Next, I would like to collect some parts of speech’s exercises. The reason why I do that because I will use the exercises as my model in making exercises in my grammar exercises. I will take the exercises from some grammar’s books and some articles in the internet. I will analyze every parts of speech’s exercise and what kinds of vocabulary that the writer used in making grammar exercises for young learners and it is the same when make exercises for adult learners or not.
Afterwards, I will collect some pictures from the internet to support my project. As I have written before, I would like to develop grammar exercises that contain of simple exercises, simple explanation, full colours, pictures, and sound effects. Consequently, I need many interesting pictures that I will put in my product. Actually, I will not put every picture from the internet without any effort from me. I will use the picture as the model and then I will draw it by myself.

Example of Theoretical Framework
Theoretical framework

My final project product is designed for young learners aged 10-14. Actually, this product is for 4th grade students in elementary school until 2nd grade students in junior high school. My final project will be entitled “Developing Grammar Exercises into Interactive CD for Young Learners”, I will only focus on exercises and explanations. The explanation is in English and is easy to understand. Then, I will make simple, clear, and easy exercises and I will make the answer keys in my grammar exercises. This application is designed for those who want to be independent in learning grammar. Here are some theories that can support me in making the product, such as grammar definition, parts of speech, parts of speech’s exercises, kinds of tests, multimedia definition, and macromedia Flash 8.
Grammar definition
On the whole, Shertzer says that grammar may be defined as a system of rules for the use of language, or as the study of what is preferred and what is to be avoided in effective speech and writing (Shertzer, 1986, p.1). Besides, Griffith explains that grammar is the consideration of the principles that determine the parts of language, their use and arrangement. (Griffith, 1849, p. 7). A further explanation is from Nordquist. He says that grammar is the science which treats of the principles of language; the study of forms of speech, and their relations to one another; the art concerned with the right use and application of the rules of a language, in speaking or writing (Nordquist, 2010, par. 1)
From these explanations about grammar definition, it can be understood that grammar is one of the language’s principles. Grammar is a vital part in language. When we speak or write, we have to use good grammar unless cannot communicate with other people properly.
The definition about grammar is important for me in making a grammar application for young learners. Firstly, the readers of my final project product have to understand what grammar is, so they can get the idea of grammar before they learn the grammar itself. Besides, if they understand the meaning of grammar, they can accomplish my parts of speech’s exercises in my application and can understand the explanations easily.
Parts of speech
Erichsen explains that parts of speech is a classification of words according to how they are used in a sentence and the types of ideas they convey. Traditionally, the parts of speech are the noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection (Erichsen, 2010, par. 1). Furthermore, Griffith gives the explanation of each parts of speech that
Nouns are words that are the names of things, adjectives are those that express qualities of things, pronouns are those that are used to remind of things, without repeating their names, verbs are those that express or imply actions, adverbs are those that qualify notions intimated by adjectives, verbs, words of their own sort or sentences, prepositions are those that help to show the relations of things, conjunctions are those that connect facts in the mind or simple sentences, and interjections are those that are mere sounds, suddenly uttered, not expressive of distinct notions (Griffith, 1849, p. 10, 11).
Another explanation comes from Mukherjee in her book entitled My Book of English Workbook. She says that a sentence is made up of words. Words are divided into different kinds or classes, called parts of speech.
From the explanations about parts of speech above, I think that parts of speech are a group of words in a language that may take place in similar positions or fulfil similar functions in a sentence. The main parts of speech in English are noun, pronoun, adjective, adverb, verb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection.
Those explanations are helpful in making a simple explanation of each part of speech in my product. I will make it simpler because my targets are young learners, so I would like to make my product be useful for them. Moreover, I hope they can learn something from each explanation and can catch the meaning easily.
Parts of speech exercises
McKay states that the techniques described in the text involve using such things as simple drawing, objects, and dialogues to encourage your students to use English (McKay, 1987, p. xiv). Then, she explains again that when you introduce a new grammar point, select your model sentences carefully. In general, try to introduce only one new grammar point in a set of model sentences so that your students can be better focus on the point you wish to emphasize (McKay, 1987, p. xv). Actually, there are also some ways in designing parts of speech exercises for children that explain by Sandra L. McKay:
- Using grids
Grids can also be used to demonstrate the typical sequencing of adjective modifiers in English. Begin this lesson by putting a grid, such as the following on the board.
OPINION SIZE SHAPE CONDITION AGE COLOR ORIGIN NOUN
Bring several objects ... and begin by showing ... one of the objects and having them tell you as many things as they can about it. [Then], fill in the grid in the following manner.
OPINION SIZE SHAPE CONDITION AGE COLOR ORIGIN NOUN
Colorful Small Round Worn-out Old Gold Japanese Doll
(p. 13).
Grids could be used to introduce and practice various grammar points. [This] exercise asks you to use this approach in designing a lesson.
- Using descriptive (with descriptive adjective).
In order to practice the placement of adjective modifiers with people, you might have each student complete a questionnare such as the following.
1. How old are you?
2. What is your nationality?
3. What is your typical characteristic of yours? (Are you shy, out-going, carefree, etc? ) (p. 14).
- Introducing statement (with the verb to be with adjective and adverbial phrases)
In order to introduce statements with the verb to be and adjective and adverbial phrases, you might use simple and readily available objects such as books, coins, pencils, etc. Show the students one of the objects, making statements with adjective modifiers such as those shown below which describe a coin. Initially, as you model the sentences, point to each rod.
BLUE WORDS GREEN WORDS PINK WORDS
It is round
It is shiny
Then show the students several others objects, cuing them with appropriate adjectives, so they can describe the object. (E.g., flat ... It is flat, silver ... it is silver) (p. 31).
- (With prepositional phrases of location)
In addition to serving as symbols for grammatical structures, you could use blocks or rods to illustrate the relative position of objects and thus introduce expressions of place. You might begin by placing two blocks as shown below and then model the following sentences
RED
YELLOW
The red block is on top of the yellow block.
The yellow block is / underneath / on the bottom of / the red block.
Next, take two rods of different colors, placing one on top of the other and ask a student to tell you where each one is located (p. 42). McKay says that gather together a set of objects that you could use to represent various grammatical structures. These objects could be cuisiniere rods, building blocks or similar objects which differ in size and color (p. 51).
If we look the types of exercises above, the writer makes simple exercises because her targets is children, so she makes interesting exercises for them. I think that her theories about exercises are useful and helpful. However, her ways in teaching students about grammar almost the same as other writers.
Kinds of tests
According to J.B. Heaton in his book entitled Writing English Language Tests, he said “ Tests may be constructed primarily as devices to reinforce learning and to motivate the student or primarily as a means of assessing the student’s performance in the language” ( p. 5). Actually, there are some the most common types of objective items used to tests awareness of the grammatical features of the language. The types of tests are as follows:
- Multiple-choice items
- Error-recognition items
- Rearrangement items
- Completion items
- Transformation items
- Items involving the changing of words
- ‘Broken sentence’ items
- Pairing and matching items
- Combination items
- Addition items
In this section, I only focus on multiple-choice items, error-recognition items, and
pairing and mathing items because those items are the types of my grammar exercises. Here are the simple explanations and the sample of the tests of each item:
- Multiple-choice
The type of multiple-choice item favoured by many constructors of grammar tests is the incomplete type, with a choice of four or five options. This item may be written in any of the following ways:
Type 1. Tom ought not to ... (A. tell B. having told C. be telling D. have told) me your secret, but not did.
Type 2. Tom ought not to ... me your secret, but not did.
A. tell
B. having told
C. be telling
D. have told
A. tell
Type 3. Tom ought not to ... B. having told me your secret, but no did.
C. be telling
D. have told
- Error-recognition
The type of constructing error recognition multiple choice items. Each
sentence contains four words or phrases underlined, marked A, B, C, and
D. Select the underlined word or phrase which is incorrect or unacceptable.
1. I do hope you wouldn’t mind waiting for such a long time (p. 40).
A B C D
- Pairing and matching
This type of item usually consists of a short conversation. It is used to test the ability to select appropriate responses to stimuli which would be presented orally in normal everyday situation. This item is more useful for testing students’ sensitivity to appropriacy and their awareness of the functions of language rather than their knowledge of grammar (p. 49).

These kinds of tests are different from the previous exercises by McKay. The writer of these tests makes a lists of several coomon types of tests that usually used by some teacher to teach their students. In my opinion, I will choose some of these kinds of tests when I am writing grammar exercises for young learners. Actually, I will use multiple choice as my techniques to write grammar exercises.
Multimedia definition
Generally, according to Peck in his book entitled Multimedia A Hands-On Introduction, he says that multimedia is the combination of two or more media types, to effectively create a sequence of events that will communicate an idea usually with both sound and visual support. Typically, multimedia productions are developed and controlled by computer (Peck, 1998, p. 3). Moreover, Moreno and Mayer state that:
Multimedia is the integration of multiple forms of media. This includes text, graphics, audio, video, etc. For example, a presentation involving audio and video clips would be considered a "multimedia presentation." Educational software that involves animations, sound, and text is called "multimedia software." CDs and DVDs are often considered to be "multimedia formats" since they can store a lot of data and most forms of multimedia require a lot of disk space (Moreno and Mayer, 1999, p. 358).
Essentially, these theories can open my mind that I can insert exercises using multimedia. In multimedia, my application can be supported by audio and visual, so it can attract children to learn more about parts of speech.
Macromedia Flash 8
As stated by Joey Lott and Robert Reinhardt, with macromedia Flash 8, we can build atremendous variety of projects from games to commerce applications to prototypes and beyond. Regardless of the type of project, there are some common threads when building Flash application (2006, p.3). Another important of macromedia Flash 8 as Joey Lott and Robert Reinhardt (2006, p.6) say that Flash 8 is a powerful tool for working on a vast array of projects from animation to rich internet applications. Flash 8 has many capabilities, and understanding those can help you plan the scope of each project. Flash 8 has many new AutoScript features that you can learn and utilize to build new types of applications.
Furthermore, those explanations about macromedia Flash 8 are very useful for making my final project product. Macromedia Flash 8 is one of the multimedia applications that give us a simple way to make games, animation, and so on. We can use macromedia Flash 8 as a tool to build up our creativity to make something new that is interesting and beneficial for other people.
Moreover, I will use this program to help me in inserting exercises, pictures, and sound effects. Actually, this kinds of computer program is the appropriate one for me to develop a product that is designed for young learners. In macromedia Flash 8, I can create interactive games exercises easily.
by Ginaaa
Sample

nothing special
In fact, there are two values in significance of study, such as theoretical value and practical value. In theoretical, I will combine computer program and English learning. How computer program can help me to attract young learners in learning parts of speech. Besides, there are some benefits of practical value:
1. To other people that in this case is young learners are they can learn grammar with the fun way and with simple, clear, and easy exercises and explanations.
2. To the English Department is this project will help the department to find the different way of teaching grammar in order to make the English Department students become intelligent in grammar than before.
3. To the present writer, it is an opportunity for applying the subject that I have learnt during the study in the English Department, such as Grammar, Aplikasi Multimedia, and Writing.

Background
Nowdays, language is one of the important things that we have to be aware of in applying for a job or in communicating with someone else who comes from different countries. In this era, English is an international language that we need to learn. Actually, if we can speak English very well, I am sure that we can survive in facing this globalization era.
Lately, some of young learners have similar difficulties in learning grammar as their second language. Some of them also do not know about the basic grammar, such as parts of speech and tenses. Grammar becomes the barrier for them in learning English because they do not understand the basic grammar. Actually, some of students are good in English speaking but when they have to write in English, they still have grammatical error in their writing.
Then, I will do my final project with Ai Siti Lisma. In doing this final project, we only focus on parts of speech and tenses. Actually, I only focus on parts of speech and Ai focuses on tenses. We will do our final project separately, but in developing the product we will do it together. Actually, the reason why we only focus on parts of speech and tenses because our target is young learners, aged 10-14. Another reason is some of elementary school students do not understand about parts of speech and tenses. In my opinion, why they do not understand about the basic grammar because in their mind, they think that grammar is a difficult lesson, so until the end they will do the similar mistake when they write in English.
Consequently, I will illustrate how grammar exercises using macromedia Flash 8 can attract young learners to learn the basic grammar. In my final project, it will contain simple exercises, simple explanations, full colours, pictures, and sound effects. These exercises are important because young learners can learn grammar with the fun way and the exercises and the explanations are easy to understand, so they can get the idea easily.

Problem identification
As I have observed before, I find some grammar exercise books for young learners aged 10 – 14 and some online articles that contain many kinds of exercises about grammar for young learners. The problem is that most of the exercises are too complex and difficult to understand. Only some books contain interesting exercises and I think the others are boring. As I know, there are so many projects that have developed to help young learners in learning English as their second language, but I do not find any project that is developing grammar exercises for young learners in order to help them in learning the basic grammar.
